Dir. Planning, Research & Statistics, bows out of Service

It was mixed feelings of joy and nostalgia for the retiring Director of Planning, Research and Statistics as he spent his last day in the office as a Civil Servant on Friday 4th October, 2019.

Dr. Sam Eno leaves service on 6th October, 2019 as he clocks 60 years, the mandatory age of retirement.

Colleagues gathered together in the office of the Permanent Secretary to bid him goodbye and wish him a peaceful retirement.

The retiring Director said he had a wonderful working relationship with his colleagues and Staff of the Ministry. He said his exit is emotional, but he is glad he is going back to his first constituency, which Is Film Production.

He expressed his profound gratitude to God for seeing him throughout his service years.

Sen. Akpabio welcomes Sen. Alasoadura to MNDA

The Hon. Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, CON, has welcomed the redeployed Minister of State for Labour and Productivity Sen. Tayo Alasoadura to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

Senator Akpabio with the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, mni, and Management staff of the Ministry received the newly redeployed Minister on Wednesday, September 25th, 2019 after the Federal Executive Council meeting.

While welcoming the Minister of State, Sen. Akpabio noted that he had personally welcomed the Minister of State during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting and extolled the fine qualities of the Minister of State, having served with him in the 8th National Assembly.

Senator Akpabio thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to work together once again, with the Senator and noted that the people of Niger Delta will forever appreciate the efforts of Mr. President in the region.

He commended the outgoing Minister of State Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, for his passion for the development of the Niger Delta region, adding that he is looking forward to working with him in future and hoped that Keyamo will continue in that same zeal in his new Ministry.

Senator Tayo Alasoadura in his remarks, noted that the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is not completely new to him having been a member of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs. He also noted that his knowledge of the Ministry’s mandate will give him the insight to move the Ministry forward.

He expressed his delight to be in the Ministry and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the rare privilege. He also promised to use his meticulous skills to harness the uncommon brain in the Ministry to develop uncommon approach to issues and ensure that all targets are met.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, said the passion for the development of Niger Delta region is what drives the Ministry and that the Management and staff are ready to work assiduously with the Ministers to ensure that the mandate of the Ministry is achieved.

Akpabio condoles with the family of the Pioneer Minister of MNDA

The Honourable Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio has extolled the virtues of pioneer Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Sir Ufot Ekaette who passed on recently.

Senator Akpabio described the Late Ufot Ekaette as a Consummate Public Servant who served humanity with sincerity of Purpose and groomed the crop of Public Servants of today for over 40 years.

The Minister said this when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the pioneer Minister on 26th September, 2019 in Abuja.

According to the Minister, late Ekaette was a diligent man with proven integrity who lived a life of service to God and humanity. Adding that his life should be a lesson to all of us who are still serving.

He noted that the late former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has made a lot of impact in the life of so many and advised the living to take solace in the fact that the quintessential bureaucrat mentored many people in the Public Service. This according to Akpabio is a legacy which money cannot buy.

“He gave his All to Nigeria, we pray that the lectures and values he instilled in us will bring positive changes in our service delivery” he said.

In her remarks, the wife of the late Pioneer Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Eme Ekaette said her late husband always tried his best at any field he found himself.

She disclosed that the late Obong Ekaette had documented his memoir which chronicled his experiences in Public Service but could not present the book to the public due to his failing health in the last two years and appealed to the Federal Government to consider organizing a colloquium where the book would be launched. This according to the widow will motivate the younger generation to serve without blemish.

She described Senator Akapbio, as a bulldozer and assured Nigerians that he will take the Niger Delta region to the next level that the South- South will be proud of because he is always eager to get results as soon as possible.

The Late Ufot Ekaette was born in 1939 in Ikot Edor, Onna local government area, Akwa Ibom State. He attended King’s College, Lagos, graduating in 1960, then went to University College, Ibadan where he earned a B.Sc. in Economics in 1964. He joined the Federal Civil Service on 28th July 1964. Ekaette was Principal Secretary to Head of State General Yakubu Gowon (1968- 1979).

Ekaette served in the Federal Ministry of Industries (1975), Information (1977-1979), Education (1979) and National Planning (1979- 1983). He was Secretary, Public Service Department and Head of Service (1984). He was Director, External Finance at the Federal Ministry of Finance (1985-86).

He was appointed Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industries in January 1986, later permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in 1988. He was Director- General, Directorate of Foods, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI) (June 1988- March 1989), Director- General, Federal Ministry of Social Development, Youth and Sports (1989) and Director- General (Planning), Federal Ministry of Budget and Planning (1990).

In 1990, he was appointed Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State under Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga. In 1996 he became a non-executive Director of First Bank of Nigeria, a post he held until 1999.
